Tooth decay is caused by bacteria in our mouths.

Parents with poor oral health may be at a greater risk of passing these bacteria to their young children. A healthy mouth has less bacteria and so by keeping his or her own mouth healthy, a parent can reduce this risk.

These simple steps will decrease the risk of spreading cavity-causing bacteria and will help to keep your own mouth healthy!

  1. Brush with fluoride toothpaste and floss on a daily basis.
  2. Limit your own intake of sugary foods and drinks.
  3. Visit your dentist regularly.
  4. Try to avoid sharing utensils, cups or food with your baby which can cause the transmission of cavity-causing bacteria.
